Motivational Mondays !!

This article from ASPIRE MAG spoke to me in so many ways:

The Commandments of Courageous, Confident Women

 -

1.  Know thyself.  Feedback, input, guidance, mentoring…all vitally important to brilliant women BUT, no one knows you like you.  Finding your authentic voice and listening to your intuition should always be the barometer for your next steps.  Trust it, it will never steer you wrong.  When you live authentically, honoring who you are, courage and confidence are natural ingredients and increase exponentially.
2. You are enough.  You’re smart, talented to the stars and back, but you find yourself second guessing your capabilities and allowing that mean lil’ devil girl on your shoulder to poke you with her pitchfork of fear, insecurity, doubt, and limiting beliefs.  You wait, feeling that you are not quite ready, when in fact you are more ready than you know.  Courageous confident women know that they will feel fear and uncertainty, but push forward in spite of it, knowing that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow.  You have infinite and priceless worth in your authentic self.
3.  Clarity Is Queen.  You know exactly what you want (and what you don’t want); you are aware of when your values and priorities change and adjust accordingly.  Being afraid to say what you want and declare it does not serve you.  Courageous confident women have their own personal blueprint for success.  Clarity is personal power squared.
4.  Balance Does Not Exist.  In honoring all the wonderful pieces of you, you know that the traditional term of balance does not exist.  Balance indicates no motion; when a scale is perfectly proportioned it doesn’t move.  Your life is about proportion, equilibrium, seasons, and ebbs and flows.  In reality, balance should be redefined as a blend of your life, not pieces of a pie that must be divided equally.  True balance is about flexibility, adaptability, and course corrections on your personal compass.
5.  Thou Shall Practice Self Care.  Eating well, getting enough sleep, exercising, taking time to feed and nourish your body, spirit and soul are your divine rights.  Successful women make themselves a priority and not an option.  Practicing self care is allows you to stretch, grow and learn; as well as providing you with comfort, cozy rituals, and time to decompress and recharge.  Courageous confident women show the world that they respect and love themselves.
6.  This Too Shall Pass. Courageous confident women know that there will be challenging, trying, and the ‘valley of shadow’ times in their lives, but they do not dwell on them nor do they live in the past or worry about the future.  They do not fixate on the things that they do not have the power to change and look for solutions in what they can control.  They focus on the present and what the priorities are here and now.
7.  The Sky Is Beyond the Limit. Dreaming big is a state of mind.  Why not you?  Why can’t you live your biggest, most audacious, bodacious dreams and desires?  Successful women know that ‘playing big’ has nothing to do with quantifying bigness and everything to do with the quality of bigness.  The key is making sure your values are in alignment with your dreams.  They are the soul twins of playing big.  Courageous, confident women are optimistic, expansive in their thinking, and know that manifesting and action go together.
8.  Follow Thy Passion.  The most illuminated and brilliant women heed the call of their passion.  It may not be loud trumpets sounding or angels singing; it may be a quiet voice that keeps trying to be heard in your soul.  It may not appear as a job or a career; it may feel like a calling or a vocation.  However it appears to you, it is irresistible in its siren song.  Courageous confident women know there may not be one grand passion, but a ‘portfolio of passions’, it’s about creating a ledger of legacy that reflects the gifts, value and service you bring to the world.
9.  Surround Thyself with Success. Brilliance begets brilliance.  Believe it and it will rub some sparkly light on you.  One of my mentors refers to this as your Jedi Council.  These are the people that are role models, coaches, supporters, and encouragers.  These Jedi Knights aid and abet in your awesomeness.  They show you the possibilities that you don’t see in yourself.  They may be near and dear to you or people you’ve never even met.   They inspire, motivate, and kick your gorgeous little tush when needed.  Courageous confident women have a wise council of like minded Jedis on their side.
10.  Energy In=Energy Out. You are the Energy Force in your life.  Everything (people, activities, thoughts) either give you energy or drain it from you.  The whole concept of balance (see Commandment 4) is created because you are doing too many activities that drain you.  Courageous confident women know that to live their ideal life they must create boundaries, learn to say a gracious no, and continually seek the energy giving moments.

Live in the infinite beauty and possibilities of who you are…it is so very bright here.

Looks to kill!

Hello kitties! Just this past weekend I saw the Hunger Games, and I admittedly, might be slightly obsessed.  I am not usually one for main stream movies - as it always seems to be: boy meets girl, something bad happens, boy and girl are back together. BORING! But, this movie offered.. so many things - including futuristic, avant garde fashion! Amaze! So, for your viewing pleasure - I bring you some FABU Hunger Games inspired looks and tutorials!

Check out this nail art tutorial, inspired by Effie Trinket and Katniss!

Motivational Mondays!

"I want to be their Queen, but I don't always feel like one"
                                                                                       -Lady Gaga

I have been a resident of funky town this weekend - in that I've just been feeling BLAH and a bit lonely.  Which, I am not ashamed to admit - it happens to the best of us!  While [not] enjoying my funk, I caught an episode of Oprah's Last Chapter (that, and a whole lot of Lifetime movies - which is a whole 'nother story! People are CRAY, CRAY!) where she interviews Lady Gaga [my apparent alter ego].  I realize I'm late in the game as this episode aired back in March, but bare with me! Gaga appeared in a chic, polished dress - with wavy blonde hair - and minimal theatrics.  It was a bit refreshing to see her unmasked (quite literally).  She spoke about many things - one of them being her new Born This Way Foundation, which is an amazing feat, and I recommend you all look in to it!

But let me cut to the chase -- in the episode, Gaga's mother Cynthia takes out a notebook she had made Gaga keep when she was younger.  Cynthia made Gaga keep this, after she saw an episode about it on Oprah.  The basis of the notebook is simple: write something each day that you are grateful for.  Seems easy right?

I think so often we get caught up in what we don't have, and this exercise will surely keep it all in perspective for you! Whether you say it - or write it - or think it, just DO IT.  Everyday, reaffirm yourself of something you are grateful for, and be assured, the rest will come.  If it doesn't happen, it was never supposed to - and now you've got a mountain of other things to be thankful for!

P.S. if you click 'Hay There's More' - you get a very entertaining surprise!

Put a little PEP in your step!

For the last year I have been on an overhaul of body, soul, and mind - and I honestly, couldn't feel better!  However, I must admit other than eating well and becoming a "pescatarian" - I have lacked on the 'body' side of things!  I am in the midst of correcting that issue by taking up some cardio, a little bit, every day.  I have to say the only reason for this new found interest is that I have been inspired by my brother.  He has, just this past Sunday, ran a 26 mile marathon throughout Paris.  That feat has majorly inspired me to get my butt in gear - oh that, and bathing suit season!  ;)

So - with all of this being said - pleaseee take a peak below - and check out one of the most amazing, HAPPY and colorful  (I mean that quite literally) races I've ever seen!  The race rules are simple: Wear white, run [or skip or dance or walk] 5k, while by standers throw colored powder at you - I'll meet you at the dance party finish line! I am looking to start a LOVE JPEP team.. If interested in joining the NYC run (SATURDAY, AUGUST 25TH - approx $45) with me CONTACT ME HERE. Click 'hay there's more' for more pics and VIDEO!

Empowering pageant !

Hello my lovely ladies !  No time to post today - BUT,  I did receive some exciting news that I wanted to share.  I have been approached to judge the 2012 Miss Teen New York pageant!  This is a very exciting and empowering opportunity for a lot of young ladies.  Unlike most pageants, this one does NOT have a swimsuit or talent competition - and has NO weight or height requirement!  It's just about inner beauty - what a great message to send to young girls.  Very honored and excited to be apart of this!

Motivational Mondays!

While watching Bridesmaids last night for the one billionth time (that might not be an exaggeration) - in the midst of a hilarious movie - there is a great underlying lesson to be learned - one that I think a lot of people can stand to learn!

"Now you gotta stop feeling sorry for yourself, because i do not associate with people who blame the world for their problems, because you're your problem.. and you're also your solution.. ya get that?"

What dream or goal are you trying to achieve - but, make excuses for every time ?  What are you standing in the way of?  IDENTIFY it, STOP it, and move FORWARD!

But first.. watch the clip ;)

Prada Pretenders !

So this season Prada has put out these super artfully done sunglasses - that I'm pretty obsessed with.  These baroque inspired sunnies are a cool $290 at most retailers - and, being that I have a serious sunglass habit that actually isn't a bad price.. BUT considering this is a super trend and not necessarily a classic, I'm gonna go with the pair I hunted down  for a ridiculously inexpensive price tag.  I erge you to do the same. ;)

Still I Rise...

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise

I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

The roots to my family tree!

As ya'll know by now, I love things with history - especially if it's my own! I think it's so important to learn about where you've came from - and how every member of your family has gotten to where you are now! So, here's another chapter in my genealogy.  My Aunt Lorelei keeps sending me old photos of my grandma's - and I'm loving every minute of it - Check um out (click HAY THERES MORE)!

Pailletts!

Some of you may or may not remember my daycation to Sag Harbor that I blogged. Regardless, while I was there I came across the most fabulous little shop - by the name of Pailletts.  There, I had the opportunity of meeting the designer and master mind behind all of the clothing and super unique accessories, Danielle Gisiger.  And, on this past Tuesday I was invited to her NYC studio to discuss some future business.  Danielle's aesthetic is girlie, fun and whimsical - she is a true blue creative.  While in her studio (which is the equivalent to Disneyland for me! I love to visit places of creative passion), I snapped some shots.  I also have included some images that I borrowed from her [soon to be revamped] website.

As usual - click 'HAY THERE'S MORE' to see all of the images!

Sabo Skirt!

By now you should all know how much I love me some empowered, ambitious women!  Well that being said - today I shopped the site of www.saboskirt.com - a site brought to us by two absolutely gorgeous girls (who are aussies, I think!) - who are driven to bring their public a low cost, high quality product.  Their clothing and accessories are all super trendy and super stand-out!  But, what's even better than their products - is their instagram images (of which I'm a bit obsessed!) - They style their pieces, so you have a better idea on how to wear them - and, they do it in a very artful way! Kudos girls!
